What Aristotle was trying to say is that in life, nothing’s so serious that we should let it destroy our sense of humor, and nothing so silly that we should blind ourselves to the truths it might be carrying.

Juggling between the the sometimes contradictory relationship between humor and good taste is no easy task.

“Humor is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humor; for a subject which will not bear raillery is suspicious, and a jest which will not bear serious examination is false wit.”
